Police in Matlab Uttar upazila of Chandpur detained 27 people, including seven alleged drug dealers and 20 members of teenage gangs, during a special overnight operation on Monday.
The drive was conducted across different areas of the upazila as part of efforts to curb drug trafficking and prevent gang-related activities.
The operation was carried out under the overall supervision of Superintendent of Police Md Rabiul Hasan and led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (Matlab Circle) Jabir Husnain Saneeb.
During the raids, police recovered 270 pieces of Yaba tablets and 250 grams of cannabis, according to law enforcement officials.
Those detained for alleged involvement in drug dealing were identified as Nirmal Chandra Das, Mohammad Riyad Hossain Gazi, Sohrab Rary, Md Sabir Hossain, Saddam, Pranto and Mohammad Masud.
In addition, 20 individuals linked to local teenage gangs were also taken into custody during the operation.
Officer-in-Charge of Matlab Uttar Police Station Mohammad Kamrul Hasan said legal procedures against the detained drug dealers and gang members were underway.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Jabir Husnain Saneeb said the detained teenagers would be counselled before being handed over to their guardians.
He added that such drives would continue in order to eradicate crime from the area.
