A college student was killed in a road accident in the Shonir Akhra area of Jatrabari, Dhaka, on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Binod Bishwa, 23, a motorcycle rider and student of the British Council in Dhanmondi.
The accident occurred at around 8:40pm. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead around 11pm.
According to the victim’s brother, Bidhan Bishwa, the family hails from Nishchintapur village in Matlab upazila of Chandpur. Binod lived in the Shantinagar area of Dhaka.
He had visited a relative’s house in the Chittagong Road area and was returning by motorcycle when a vehicle reportedly struck him in the Shonir Akhra area before fleeing the scene, leaving him seriously injured.
Locals later rescued him and took him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the death and said the body had been kept in the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
