Two passengers of an easy bike were killed and at least five others injured after a goods-laden truck ran over the vehicle in Lalpur upazila of Natore.
The accident occurred around 7am on Tuesday on the Ishwardi–Baneshwar highway in the Nabinagar area. Lalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mujibur Rahman confirmed the incident.
The deceased were identified as Zahidul Islam, 50, and Monirul, 27. Both were residents of Chotobadkoya village under Bilmaria Union in the upazila.
According to police and local sources, the Ishwardi-bound easy bike was hit by an approaching truck.
Initially one passenger died on the spot, while the driver and six others were injured. Later another died in the hospital.
Rescuers rushed the injured to hospitals. Five were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, while one was taken to Lalpur Upazila Health Complex.
The injured include easy bike driver Rabbi, 22, Babul, 35, Mithun Saha, 35, Majnu, 40, and Rajib, 35.
After the crash, the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene.
Fire Service personnel and police later rescued the injured and sent them to hospitals. Authorities also seized the vehicles involved and took them to the police station.
OC Mujibur Rahman confirmed the incident. He said one body has been kept at the police station, and legal proceedings are underway.
