Two tourists travelling to Cox’s Bazar on a motorcycle were killed after being struck by a bus on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway in Chakaria.
The accident took place along the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway in Chakaria of Cox’s Bazar, said police.
The deceased have been identified as Shariful Islam, 30, and Raisul Islam, 30. Both were from Uttarkhan of Dhaka.
Police said the two tourists were travelling from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar on a motorcycle. Several of their friends were travelling to the same destination on separate motorcycles. On the way, a passenger bus of Lal-Sabuj Paribahan, coming from Chattogram, struck Shariful and Raisul’s motorcycle from behind. The impact mangled the motorcycle and left them critically injured.
Local residents rescued them and took them to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
Citing locals, Ariful Amin, Officer-in-Charge of Chiringa Highway Police Station, said the bus driver and his assistant fled the scene after the accident. Police have seized the bus and the motorcycle from the site.
He added that the bodies are being kept in the hospital morgue and the families have been informed. The bodies will be handed over to relatives upon their arrival.
