Two chicken traders were killed early Tuesday when a truck hit their vehicle near Bangabhaban in the capital.
The victims were identified as Ripon, 50, and Sultan, 40, both residents of Shantinagar, where they ran a chicken shop.
Md Shahin Alam, a van driver from Gulistan’s Kaptan Bazar market who helped take the victims to hospital, said the accident occurred around 4am.
Ripon and Sultan had purchased chickens from Kaptan Bazar and were heading towards Shantinagar. The incident took place when their vehicle attempted a U‑turn in front of the Bangabhaban.
A truck rammed them from behind, overturning the vehicle and throwing both men onto the road, where they were crushed under the truck’s wheels.
The victims were rescued in critical condition and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead.
Inspector Md Faruk, in‑charge of the DMCH Police Camp, confirmed the deaths, saying the bodies were kept at the morgue. He added that the concerned police station has begun legal proceedings over the incident.
