Leaders of the 12-party alliance, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, met with BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Wednesday at the BNP’s political office in Gulshan.
Held as a matter of political courtesy and mutual cooperation, the meeting saw Tarique Rahman exchanging views with alliance leaders in a cordial atmosphere.
With the deadline for withdrawing nomination papers set for 20 January, alliance leaders requested the BNP chairman to promptly remove BNP rebel candidates from seats allocated to the partner parties.
Sources stated that the BNP Chairman assured the alliance that all complications regarding the conceded seats would be addressed prior to the withdrawal deadline.
Among those present at the meeting were BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, Secretary General of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh Mufti Golam Mohiuddin Ikram, and Secretary General of Islami Oikya Jote Maulana Abdul Karim, along with several other top leaders of the alliance.
