In a bid to resolve water scarcity in the remote hills of Khagrachari, the Bangladesh Army Chief has launched a new initiative, providing 117 families in two villages with access to clean drinking water. The project serves Reza Monipara and Karigar Para, located in the hilly regions of Panchhari Upazila, where residents have long struggled with insufficient water resources.
On the morning of September 11, 2025, Khagrachari Region Commander Brigadier General Hasan Mahmud inaugurated the solar-powered clean water supply system. In his address, he emphasized the Bangladesh Army’s commitment to not only ensuring security in the area but also improving the quality of life for the local communities.
This initiative follows the Army Chief’s visit to the Reza Monipara Army Camp on March 29, 2025. During the visit, he met with local leaders and former members of the area to discuss the pressing issues faced by the people. He assured them of his commitment to improving living standards, including the implementation of clean drinking water projects.
Brigadier General Mahmud reaffirmed that this humanitarian project is just one of many efforts by the Army to bring positive change to the region, alongside its ongoing security duties. He also promised continued support for the people of the hill tracts.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Khagrachari District Council Chairperson Shefalika Tripura, Khagrachari Sadar Zone Commander Lt. Colonel Md. Khademul Islam, Khagrachari District Commissioner ABM Ifthekharul Islam Khondkar, and Police Superintendent Md. Arefin. Senior officials from the Khagrachari Army Region, Zone, and District Council also participated in the event.
The Army’s ongoing efforts in the hill tracts continue to focus on improving living conditions, alongside maintaining peace and order in the region.
