Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal president Abdul Monayem Munna has warned that mob rule and unruly elements are once again raising their heads in Bangladesh’s politics, asserting that being devious in speech cannot ensure longevity in politics.
He made the remarks on Monday at an exchange meeting with the newly elected central committee leaders at Hotel Victor in Nayapaltan, Dhaka.
“Mob terrorism will not be accepted by the public. Speak in political language, do organisational work, and refrain from making reckless statements,” Munna told the gathering.
The Jubo Dal president urged all leaders and activists to work together to strengthen the organisation across the country. He also called on them to come forward and assist the current government in various tasks.
Munna said the sacrifices and struggles of street-level activists have been duly valued. He noted that approximately 114 members from the previous committee have been retained in the new 151-member committee, acknowledging their contributions.
“We could not accommodate a few other dedicated leaders. We will try to include at least another 100 people in the committee. No one has any reason to be disappointed,” he said.
Responding to a question, Munna clarified that positions were not given based on seniority but rather on contributions to movements and struggles.
Jubo Dal General Secretary Nurul Islam Nayan struck a stern note, warning that no one will be forgiven if they damage the party’s reputation.
He said that following the popular uprising, many leaders have been expelled and committees dissolved based on complaints. Some have even been publicly accused through press conferences urging law enforcement to arrest them.
“Many of these leaders were close to us. They had contributions and played roles in movements. Still, organisational action has been taken to protect party discipline,” Nayan said.
Addressing new office bearers, he said, “Do not misuse your position. It is a trust from the party. Refrain from actions that bring a bad name to Jubo Dal.”
He added that those who maintain deep ties with the party may be included in future committees, while those who create anarchy by expressing differing opinions against the party will face strict action.
At the start of his speech, Munna commemorated BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman and late BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, praying for the forgiveness of their souls.
Senior vice-president Rezaul Kabir Pal, vice-president Nurul Islam Sohel, and other central leaders were also present at the meeting.
