Police recovered the body of a 20-year-old man from a ditch near his father-in-law’s residence in Pabna Sadar upazila on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Tuhin Kha, son of Habibur Rahman of Tatipara village in Chartarapur union.
Tuhin had been visiting his father-in-law Aktar Hossain, who lives in Dubai, at his residence in Naldah Purvapara Lalgola area of Bharara union.
According to police and local residents, the body was found around 10am with a towel (gamchha) tied around his neck.
Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Tarikul Islam said police were initially informed about a death around 2am. However, when officers reached the spot, they could not find the body.
It was alleged that locals later threw the body into a nearby pond following the incident. The body was found floating in the water by residents on Saturday morning, who then informed police.
Preliminary investigation suggested that Tuhin might have died by suicide on the veranda of a local mosque during the night.
“We have learned that the deceased was addicted to drugs,” OC Tarikul Islam said. “He reportedly had a quarrel with his wife, Afsana Khatun, on Friday evening over his drug use.”
The body has been sent to the morgue of Pabna General Hospital for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Police said a detailed investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
