Two motorcyclists were killed in separate road accidents at different locations in Demra area of the capital.
The deceased were identified as Saddam Hossain, 32, and Nazmul Hossain, 19.
The incidents took place around 10am on Thursday near the western side of Demra Sultana Kamal Bridge, and at around 11pm on Wednesday in the Konapara Bansherpul area.
Saddam Hossain worked in the marketing department of SSB Global Overseas, a recruiting agency based in Kakrail. Agency owner Md Sajal Hossain said Saddam lived in his own house at Rupshi in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj. His father’s name is Abdul Latif. He used to commute daily by motorcycle from home to office.
He said Saddam was on his way to office on Thursday morning when the accident occurred.
Demra Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Kakon Mia said Saddam was injured when a pickup van hit his motorcycle near the western side of Demra Sultana Kamal Bridge around 10am. He was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
He said the pickup van driver fled the scene and efforts were underway to identify the vehicle. The body has been kept at the hospital morgue.
In a separate incident, Nazmul Hossain, 19, died after a motorcycle accident at Konapara Bansherpul.
Nazmul’s maternal grandfather MA Bari said they lived in the Konapara area of Demra, while their village home is at Rajargaon in Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur. His father’s name is Delwar Hossain. Nazmul helped his father in a vehicle parts business.
He said Nazmul went out on Wednesday night with his friend Iman for a ride.
Demra Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Rubel Howlader said Iman was riding the motorcycle when it skidded on a slippery road due to rain, leaving both injured.
They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Nazmul dead. Iman sustained minor injuries and received first aid.
He added that the body was handed over to the family without post-mortem following their request.
