A man was reportedly hacked to death by unidentified assailants in a field near Uttar Rangemari Battala in Batiaghata upazila, Khulna, on Friday evening.
The deceased, Azizul Islam, 35, was the son of Habibur Rahman from the Bakultala area of Morelganj, Bagerhat.
According to police and witnesses, armed assailants on four motorcycles abducted Azizul around 7pm, took him to a nearby field, and attacked him with sharp weapons.
The attackers reportedly fired blank shots before fleeing the scene. Local residents attempted a rescue, but Azizul died on the spot.
Batiaghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khandaker Hafizur Rahman stated that CID specialists are investigating.
While no shell casings were found, Azizul sustained severe wounds to his neck. Police noted that one of his legs had been previously amputated.
Preliminary investigations suggest the murder may stem from drug-related disputes, as Azizul faced seven criminal cases, including robbery and extortion.
