A youth was killed after being electrocuted while trying to extinguish a fire triggered by an electrical short circuit in Gopalganj on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased, Imran Molla, 30, was the son of Mohsin Molla of Charmanikkadah village under Latifpur union on the outskirts of the district town.
According to local sources, the fire broke out at the house of his cousin, Palu Molla, due to a short circuit. Hearing about the incident, Imran rushed to the spot to help control the blaze.
At one stage, while attempting to disconnect the electricity supply from the meter using a stick, he came into contact with a live connection and was electrocuted.
Locals rescued him and rushed him to Gopalganj Medical College Hospital, where doctors on duty declared him dead.
The fire was later brought under control by residents, though parts of the house were damaged.
