Bangladesh’s junior cricketers are set to take centre stage as the Youth Cricket League is scheduled to begin in March, following a brief post-election hiatus. With the 13th national parliamentary elections held on 12 February, most senior players have been resting, leaving only the Bangladesh women’s A team in ongoing competition.
The tournament will follow the domestic one-day BCL format, which starts on 23 February, before junior players step onto the field for the Youth Cricket League in the first week of March. The league is expected to run from 5 March, weather and logistics permitting, with Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet proposed as host venues. Both locations have two grounds each, with the final matches planned at one of them.
A key focus of the Youth Cricket League will be the formation of the Bangladesh Under-19 squad for future international tournaments. The squad is expected to include 30 initial players, according to a source at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) tournament committee. This new setup follows the 2026 Under-19 World Cup and is aimed at preparing a fresh team for the 2028 edition.
The Youth Cricket League is expected to offer a platform for young talent to develop, while providing selectors with an early look at players who could form the backbone of Bangladesh cricket in the coming years.
