A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking an order to keep all schools of the country shut until the measles outbreak decreases.
The petition also requested the formation of an investigation committee into the recent deaths of 47 children from measles.
Lawyer Latif Jahan Purnima filed the petition on Thursday, mentioning the Family Welfare Division of the Health Ministry and other relevant government authorities as respondents.
The petition also sought directives for the respondents to submit a report detailing number of measles deaths, infection rates, vaccination coverage, vaccine availability, and measures taken so far.
It also urged the court to order an independent investigation into failures in ensuring vaccination coverage, shortages of vaccines, and delays in preventive measures. It demanded explanations for why timely action was not taken and requested that the findings be presented to the court.
Additionally, the petition sought immediate directives for a nationwide emergency measles vaccination programme, along with uninterrupted supply of vaccines, syringes, and logistics.
