A worker has been stabbed to death during the inauguration of an election office of an independent candidate in Mymensingh-1 constituency in Dhobaura upazila on Friday evening.
The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam, 46, son of Haji Mofiz Uddin of Ramsinghpur area.
The incident took place at Ershad Bazar in Dhobaura upazila, according to Dhobaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam. He was a campaign activist for independent candidate Salman Omar Rubel, who is contesting the 13th National Parliamentary Election from the constituency.
Police and eyewitnesses said Nazrul was critically injured after being stabbed by rivals during the opening ceremony of Rubel’s election office.
Nazrul was rushed to the Dhobaura Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
The attack has sparked fear and tension among residents in the area. Police visited the scene soon after the incident and confirmed that legal action is underway.
OC Shafiqul Islam said that they are investigating the incident, and measures are being taken to ensure law and order in the area.
