A 55-year-old woman lost her life after falling under the wheels of a moving train while attempting to board it at Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Asma Bhuiyan. The accident occurred at approximately 7:30 am.
Following the incident, she was rescued in a critical condition and rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the attending physician declared her dead.
The victim’s husband, Abdul Momin Bhuiyan, stated that the couple resided in their own home in the South Khan Mollartek area of Dhaka. They had travelled from Airport Station to Kamalapur by train and intended to board another train to Narayanganj to visit the home of one of their three daughters’ fathers-in-law.
According to reports, upon arriving at Kamalapur, the couple noticed their desired train was already departing. In the ensuing haste to board the moving carriage, Asma Bhuiyan slipped from the platform and fell onto the tracks. She sustained fatal injuries after being crushed by the train.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Abu Hanif of the Dhaka Railway Police Station (Kamalapur) confirmed the details of the accident. He noted that the body has been handed over to the relatives without an autopsy following their specific request and as there were no complaints filed by the family regarding the incident.
