A woman was killed after a brick fell on her head from an under-construction building during a storm in the capital’s Hatirjheel area on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Rasheda Begum, 35, a mother of five who worked in several households in Madhubagh area.
The incident occurred around 8pm in Madhubagh Lane No. 3, in front of Professor Bari. Rasheda was critically injured when a brick collapsed from the top of a nearby under-construction building and struck her on the head during heavy rain and strong winds.
Locals rushed her first to Kurmitola General Hospital. As her condition worsened, she was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared her dead at about 10pm.
Rasheda hailed from Sadar upazila of Gaibandha District. Her husband, Saiful Islam, is a van driver. She had been living in a rented house owned by Ruhul Amin in Madhubagh.
Her brother-in-law Sakhawat Hossain said Rasheda had been returning home when the storm began. As she was passing in front of the under-construction building near her residence, strong winds caused part of a brick wall to collapse, and a brick struck her on the head, leaving her unconscious.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the police camp at DMCH, confirmed the death and said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue.
