A housewife was stabbed to death by her former husband over a family dispute in Dakkhin Khan area of the capital on Monday night.
The deceased, 33-year-old Akhlimah Akter, was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition around 12:15 am on Tuesday by her relatives. Doctors declared her dead shortly after arrival.
Akhlimah’s daughter, Sheikh Sayeri, said they lived on the third floor of a four-story rented building in Pakarmatha, Dewanbadi, Dakkhin Khan. Akhlimah owned a clothing shop in Uttara. Years ago, her father abandoned the family. Later, Akhlimah’s mother remarried a man named Masud.
After some time, Akhlimah sent Masud to Dubai at her own expense, but he cut off contact after arriving. He returned to Bangladesh 4-5 months ago, and the couple divorced amid ongoing disputes.
On Monday night around 8:30 pm, Masud visited their home in Dakkhin Khan and stabbed Akhlimah on the head and both hands. She was initially taken to Kuwait Maityri Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Inspector Md. Faruk, officer-in-charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed the victim sustained stab wounds to her head and hands. Her body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
Akhlimah Akter was the daughter of the late Rafiqullah from Chatkhil Upazila in Noakhali district. Police have launched an investigation into the case.
