Bangladesh is seeking Egyptian investment and joint ventures in leather, pharmaceuticals, jute and other industrial sectors to expand foreign investment and strengthen trade ties with Egypt.
Industries, Commerce, Textiles and Jute Minister Khandkar Abdul Muktadir made the call during a meeting with Egyptian Ambassador to Bangladesh Omar Mohie Eldin Ahmed Fahmy at the Ministry of Industries in Dhaka on Monday.
Muktadir said Bangladesh’s industrial expansion is creating opportunities for foreign investors and urged Egyptian businesses and industrial entrepreneurs to invest in the country. Such investment could give Egyptian companies access to new markets while supporting industrial growth and employment in Bangladesh, he said.
“Bangladesh and Egypt have longstanding historical and friendly relations. To strengthen these ties further, mutual cooperation in industry and investment needs to increase,” Muktadir said.
He identified leather, light engineering, pharmaceuticals, jute and jute products as potential areas of cooperation. Technology and skills exchange and joint ventures could help develop these industries, he said.
The two sides also discussed expanding investment and bilateral trade, exchanging technology and skills, and pursuing joint ventures.
Fahmy said Egypt was interested in deepening economic and trade relations with Bangladesh and stressed greater cooperation in industry and investment.
He said stronger links between businesses and industrial entrepreneurs in the two countries could expand bilateral trade and investment and assured continued support for such efforts.
Both sides expressed optimism about expanding industrial, trade and investment cooperation between Bangladesh and Egypt.
