Over the past 11 months, BNP has expelled more than 4,000 leaders and activists on various charges, including extortion, land grabbing, and attacks. However, many expulsion orders have also been revoked. After the revocation of expulsion orders, many have returned to their old ways.
The president of a ward committee under Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP was expelled from the party after a case was filed, and he was arrested on charges of extortion and land grabbing at Azimpur Graveyard.
However, party leaders and activists have raised questions after that order was revoked on Tuesday, September 9, eight months later.
Additionally, after the announcement of committees for several thanas, those deprived of positions have become aggrieved.
Joint forces arrested Aminul Islam Amin, president of Ward No 23 of Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP, on charges of extortion and land grabbing at Azimpur Graveyard. A case was filed against him at Lalbagh Police Station on December 23, 2024, by a person named Rakib. The case is still under trial.
In this incident, Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP expelled Aminul Islam Amin from all party positions on January 2. Eight months later, on Tuesday, September 9, Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP revoked the expulsion order of Aminul Islam Amin.
On the same day, the committees of Wards 23, 24, 25, and 26 under Lalbagh Thana BNP were dissolved.
Joint Convener Saeedur Rahman Mintu, in charge of the committee’s office, signed three letters on the instructions of Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Convener Rafiqul Alam Manju and Member Secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin.
Aminul Islam has claimed that the allegations against him are not true and that he is the victim of a conspiracy.
Meanwhile, local leaders and activists are deeply aggrieved over the revocation of the expulsion after such sensitive allegations of extortion and land grabbing at the graveyard. They have complained to the top leaders of the party.
Member Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Tanvir Ahmed Robin stated that the plaintiff in the case for which Amin was expelled has submitted an affidavit in court, withdrawing the allegations. The plaintiff said that the Amin he has as accused in the case is not the same Amin.
Amin is a long-time dedicated worker. He was once involved with Chhatra Dal. Considering all aspects, the expulsion order has been revoked.
Out of the 24 thanas under Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP, committees for 20 thanas have been announced recently. Among them, Yakub Sarkar has resigned from the position of Joint Convener of Ward No 2 of Banshali Thana BNP, dissatisfied with the committee.
Leaders and activists deprived of positions have raised objections to the announced committees of New Market, Hazaribagh, and Dhanmondi thanas.
Joint Convener of South BNP, Saeedur Rahman Mintu, stated that although Yakub Sarkar announced his resignation on Facebook, he has yet to submit a formal written application. There are some complaints from leaders and activists regarding the announced committees of a few thanas, but nothing serious, he added.
He also mentioned that the committees for Demra, Jatrabari, Lalbagh, and Chawkbazar thanas are yet to be announced.
