Coke Studio’s hit song Pasoori has become the first Pakistan-made music video to cross one billion views on YouTube, marking a major milestone for Ali Sethi and Shae Gill’s global hit.

Coke Studio announced the milestone on Instagram on Sunday. Released on 7 February 2022, the duet quickly became a sensation.

It was Spotify’s most-streamed Pakistani song in 2022 and remains Sethi and Gill’s most-streamed track, with almost 405 million streams.

The song inspired covers in Pakistan, India and beyond. It also featured on the soundtrack of Disney’s Ms Marvel and received a Coke Studio Africa remix with Marwan Moussa and Reekado Banks.

A Bollywood version appeared in Satyaprem Ki Katha (2023), sung by Arijit Singh and Tulsi Kumar. The remake drew criticism, prompting Gill to ask fans not to send hate to those involved.

She urged listeners who disliked the version simply not to listen to it, saying public humiliation and insults were unnecessary.
