Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has officially assumed the responsibility of governing the state after securing an absolute majority in the 13th Parliamentary Election.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, the prime minister allocated portfolios among the members of his new 49-member cabinet in accordance with the Rules of Business.

According to a gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Tuesday night, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has retained the Cabinet Division, the Ministry of Defence, and the Armed Forces Division under his direct jurisdiction.

The Cabinet members

The newly formed administration consists of 25 full Ministers and 24 Ministers of State. The 25 Ministers appointed to the cabinet are –

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud (Tuku), Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, AZM Zahid Hossain, Dr Khalilur Rahman (technocrat), Abdul Awal Mintoo, Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, Mizanur Rahman Minu, Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Zahir Uddin Swapon, Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid (technocrat), Afroza Khanam, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Asadul Habib Dulu, Md. Asaduzzaman, Zakaria Taher, Dipen Dewan, ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan, Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain, Fakir Mahbub Anam, and Sheikh Rabiul Alam.

In a significant break from historical tradition, the swearing-in ceremony of the new government was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban (National Parliament House) complex, rather than the customary presidential palace, Bangabhaban.
