Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said the party believes in welfare of people and establishment of a justice-based society.
The party wants to build a country founded on justice through the votes and support of the people, he added.
He made these remarks at a roadside rally held at the Muksedpur upazila bus stand in Gopalganj around 10 pm on Tuesday, while returning to Dhaka after concluding the election campaign in the region.
He also said, “Whatever happened to us in the past, we have forgiven it on behalf of the party. We pledged not to engage in politics of revenge, extortion, or corruption, and we have kept that promise.”
Security was tightened in the Muksedpur bus stand area ahead of the Jamaat chief’s arrival. Additionally, police, APBn members, and plainclothes intelligence surveillance were also increased.
After the rally, Shafiqur departed for Dhaka the same night.
