Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has warned that the licences of primary waste collection contractors will be cancelled if they charge households more than the fixed Tk100 monthly fee or fail to remove waste on a daily basis.
DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam issued the strict directive during an exchange meeting with waste collection firms at Nagar Bhaban on Monday.
“Complaints are coming from various areas that many firms are charging more than the fixed rate and are not collecting waste daily. This will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” the DSCC administrator said.
He said a maximum of Tk100 per month must be collected from each flat or household, and that too must be collected through official receipts.
The meeting also outlined special preparations for Eid-ul-Azha. No sanitation worker or concerned official will be allowed to take leave during the three days of Eid, Salam said.
Workers must remain in the field until each ward becomes waste-free. Contractors must directly supervise work and ensure adequate vans and manpower, he added.
The DSCC administrator warned that waste must not be dumped on roads or canals under any circumstances. If any household places waste on roads or canals instead of designated locations, a mobile court operation will be conducted at that household.
Salam reminded that waste management is not merely a service but also a humanitarian and social responsibility, adding that DSCC will take strict action according to law if contract terms are violated.
Senior DSCC officials and representatives of waste collection firms attended the meeting.
