The global success of Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters continues to influence the gaming industry, with a new indie title drawing clear inspiration from the animated hit’s blend of music, fantasy and supernatural action, writes Screen Rant.
Titled Warota: I Live Next to The Demon King’s Castle LOL, the upcoming game combines K-pop-inspired performances with voxel-based city building and survival gameplay reminiscent of Minecraft, creating an unusual but intriguing experience for fans of both genres.
Since the release of KPop Demon Hunters in late 2025, several developers have explored similar themes, borrowing elements such as vibrant animation, supernatural creatures and music-driven storytelling.
While many of these similarities may be coincidental, Warota stands out for embracing the film’s core aesthetic and premise more directly.
In the game, players are transported to the fantasy world of Luna, where they must build and expand a village while defending it from waves of monsters.
The twist comes from the presence of an Idol Demon King, who performs live concerts near the settlement, triggering attacks from supernatural enemies.
Despite its tongue-in-cheek title, Warota: I Live Next to The Demon King’s Castle LOL offers a surprisingly deep gameplay experience.
Players can construct their own settlement using more than 30 different building types within a fully voxel-based sandbox environment that encourages creativity and exploration.
The game also features 20 playable character classes, each of which can be changed simply by switching hats.
Villagers recruited throughout the adventure can also be assigned these classes, allowing them to take on different responsibilities such as farming, cooking, construction and defending the village.
Beyond city management, players can explore multiple biomes, venture into dungeons and engage in hack-and-slash combat against various monsters.
The isometric perspective and blend of building mechanics and action have drawn comparisons to Dragon Quest Builders, another title inspired by Minecraft’s creative gameplay.
Although Warota is not an officially licensed KPop Demon Hunters game, its colourful presentation, musical theme and supernatural setting make it one of the closest experiences currently available for fans eager to revisit the spirit of Netflix’s animated sensation.
Developer One or Eight has confirmed that the game will launch sometime in 2026, although an exact release date has yet to be announced.
A closed beta test concluded in June, and the studio has indicated that additional testing phases could be held before release.
As anticipation continues to build for a potential KPop Demon Hunters sequel, Warota: I Live Next to The Demon King’s Castle LOL could provide fans with a fresh way to experience a similarly energetic mix of music, fantasy and action while they wait.
