Bangladesh’s Woman International Master Wadifa Ahmed suffered a defeat in her opening game at the FIDE Women’s World Cup, which began today in Batumi, Georgia.
Playing with the black pieces against France’s Woman Grandmaster Daulyte Cornett Deimante, Wadifa lost after 25 moves using the Sicilian Defence.
The knockout tournament features 107 players. Wadifa will play the second game of the first round tomorrow with the white pieces. To stay in the competition, she must win, but a draw by her opponent would see her advance to the next round.
