The army has arrested Shawon, 19, the prime suspect in a widely circulated mugging incident in Bosila, Mohammadpur, along with three of his associates.
The arrests took place around 12am on Saturday in the Bosila Future City area.
The other three arrested are Mohim Ahmed, 24; Jewel, 25; and Ashib, 24.
During questioning, Shawon admitted to being the individual seen in the viral video. He also handed over a samurai-style machete, which was reportedly used in the mugging, to the army patrol team.
The four suspects have been handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station, according to the army.
Sources from Bosila Army Camp said that the incident occurred on September 6, when a youth’s bag, laptop, and mobile phone were snatched.
CCTV footage captured the act, which later went viral on social media.
Following the video’s circulation, the suspects fled the area. When one of them returned to Dhaka on Saturday, army personnel from Bosila Army Camp launched an operation, leading to the arrest of Shawon and his three accomplices.
