The Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested 25 leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations for their alleged involvement in staging processions across Dhaka.
DB sources said the arrests took place over the past 24 hours through a number of planned raids in various parts of the capital.
Authorities allege that the detainees attempted to hold political events and gatherings without official permission, defying restrictions currently in place.
Officials from the DB said the arrested individuals are being questioned, and legal proceedings will be initiated based on the findings of the preliminary inquiry.
They further emphasised that “strict measures will continue against any organisation or group violating the current ban on political activities in the capital,” underscoring that ensuring public safety and order remains their foremost concern.
