Bangladeshi photographer and Drik’s Managing Director Shahidul Alam, who joined the aid mission Global Sumud Flotilla en route to Gaza, has said in two separate video messages that the ships are “very close to Gaza.”
Earlier, in his post, Shahidul spoke from the ship’s deck, sharing the surrounding view. He appeared smiling and conversing with fellow passengers on Thursday.
On that day, his first video was recorded inside the cabin, where he said the rough sea had made him feel somewhat unwell.
Later, Shahidul posted that many people had expressed concern for his health but he could not respond to everyone individually. In a caption, he wrote, “People have been asking how I am. Apologies that I can’t respond to you individually.
“I did vomit today and fell afterwards, but nothing serious. With 20 doctors on board plus nurses we are probably the best looked after passengers on a ship in Medical terms. I did love all the attention I got.”
Meanwhile, Israel has claimed that it has seized all but one of the flotilla’s ships. However, questions remain over the accuracy of this claim.
The Global Sumud Flotilla is an international humanitarian initiative aimed at delivering aid by sea to the besieged people of Gaza. Around 500 activists, doctors, journalists and parliamentarians from 44 countries have joined the mission.
