The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is expected to set the verdict date on Thursday in the case against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, accused of crimes against humanity during the anti-discrimination student movement last year.
Prosecutor Mizanul Islam shared information at a press briefing held at the tribunal’s premises on Wednesday afternoon.
Other accused in the case are ex-home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former police inspector general Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.
Notably, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has pleaded guilty and turned state witness in the trial.
He said that the state-appointed defence counsel for the absconding accused Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan, as well as the defense counsel for approver Mamun, concluded their arguments on Wednesday.
“We will place our final reply on behalf of the prosecution tomorrow. The chief prosecutor and the attorney general will also deliver their closing remarks. Following that, the tribunal is expected to formally fix the date for the verdict,” said Mizanul.
Earlier in the day, Md Amir Hossain, the state-appointed defense counsel, wrapped up his arguments on behalf of the accused, denying the charges and seeking their acquittal after three days of arguments.
The proceedings took place before the three-member Tribunal-1, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder.
