Uttara University on Monday honoured participants injured during the July 2024 Movement through its ‘Smaraney July ‘24’ programme, commemorating the sacrifices of the movement’s martyrs and reaffirming its commitment to preserving the history and values of the uprising.
Held at the university’s Multipurpose Hall, the event brought together students, faculty members and university officials. State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj addressed the programme through a recorded video message, praising the role of Uttara University students in the July Movement and encouraging them to continue working for democratic governance and a people-centric Bangladesh, said a press release.
A major highlight of the programme was the unveiling of the commemorative souvenir ‘Lekha Achhey Oshrujoley’, followed by the presentation of commemorative crests and copies of the publication to selected recipients.
The university Vice-Chancellor Eaysmin Ara Lekha urged students to uphold truth and justice and discharge their responsibilities towards the country through education and integrity.
The programme also featured a presentation by Director of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) ASM Shahabuddin, on the methodology used to prepare the commemorative list. Micro-documentaries on Uttara University students’ experiences during the July 2024 Movement were screened, followed by personal reflections from several participants.
The event concluded with a special prayer led by Dean of the School of Science and Engineering Mirza Golam Rabbani for the souls of those killed during the July Movement.
According to the university, the programme was organised to honour the sacrifices of the July 2024 Movement and preserve its legacy for future generations.
