Users across the globe, including in Bangladesh, faced sudden difficulties accessing the popular social media platform Facebook and its messaging service, Messenger, on Friday evening.
According to the service disruption monitoring website Isdown, more than 5,700 complaints regarding Facebook’s services were submitted within the last 24 hours. On Friday afternoon, the organisation reported that complex problems had been identified within Facebook’s services.
Users complained that, in many instances, the Facebook newsfeed was failing to load, there were significant delays in sending messages via Messenger, and there were general problems accessing the apps.
The highest volume of complaints has been reported from the United States, the Philippines, and several other countries.
In Bangladesh, many users reported experiencing disruptions in using Facebook and Messenger from 7:30pm on Friday. Affected individuals shared their grievances and experiences across various social media groups and other digital platforms.
As of the time of reporting, no information has been made available regarding the specific cause of the disruption, the duration of the problem, or when services are expected to return to normal. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has also not yet issued an official statement concerning the matter.
Facebook and Messenger serve as primary communication tools for billions of people worldwide. Consequently, even this temporary disruption has triggered widespread panic and anxiety among its global user base.
