The Trump administration has sent back 23 more Bangladeshi nationals from the United States on a special flight. The group arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on early Thursday.
According to sources, these individuals had originally left Bangladesh in 2014 on work permit visas in search of better employment opportunities. They reportedly stayed in various countries, including Dubai, Qatar, South Africa, Brazil, and Peru, before illegally entering the US by crossing borders.
Although they found work in various establishments, US immigration authorities initiated legal proceedings against them for failing to meet residency requirements and violating US immigration laws. Following the completion of necessary legal processes, they were repatriated to Bangladesh via the special flight.
Upon their arrival at the airport, the non-governmental organisation BRAC provided each deportee with financial assistance of Tk5,000. Light refreshments were also arranged for the returnees. The individuals left the airport premises at 1:30pm after completing immigration and other mandatory formalities.
This incident comes amidst a continuing trend of Bangladeshi citizens being repatriated from various countries for immigration violations.
Experts have reiterated the importance of following legal channels for overseas employment and strictly adhering to the immigration laws of host nations.
