A few days ago, the University of Dhaka received a grant of Tk 2 crore from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for the development of its Physical Education Centre grounds. The BCB handed over the grant on 10 February, in the presence of Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Niyaz Ahmed Khan and Cricket Operations Chairman Nazmul Abedin Fahim.
Now, the University of Chittagong has requested a grant of Tk 2 crore from the BCB for the renovation of its own sports grounds. On Saturday, a letter was sent to BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul by former BCB director Sirajuddin Md. Alamgir. In the letter, the university emphasised its role as a crucial platform for intra-department competitions and the development of national-level athletes.
The letter states: “As one of Bangladesh’s leading higher education institutions, the University of Chittagong has contributed significantly to sports since its inception. Students of the university actively participate in various national-level sports, and their successes are noteworthy. Through year-round training, intra-department competitions, and the development of national-level athletes, the university has played a key role as a sports platform. You may be pleased to know that the honours and master’s courses in ‘Physical Education and Sports Science’ were first introduced here in 2015.”
It continues: “Currently, the development of the university’s sports infrastructure, especially the renovation and modernisation of the two existing grounds, has become critical. In this context, similar to Dhaka University, we earnestly request a grant of Tk 2 crore to accelerate Chittagong University’s sports development initiatives. This funding, if utilised for ground renovation and other necessary facilities, will ensure a modern and high-quality sports environment for the students.”
Regarding this, Sirajuddin added: “Your kind support will enrich Chittagong University’s sports facilities and play an effective role in nurturing skilled athletes at the national level.”
