United Commercial Bank (UCB) PLC launched its integrated digital banking platform “UCB One” on Sunday, aiming to streamline banking and lifestyle services on a single platform as lenders push deeper into digitalisation.
The platform was unveiled at an event held at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka, the bank said, with Prime Minister’s Adviser for Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir inaugurating the service.
UCB Chairman Sharif Zahir and Managing Director and CEO Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid attended the event, alongside policymakers, business leaders, stakeholders and senior officials.
The platform is designed to offer a full range of banking services, including account opening, fund transfers, bill payments, card management, QR payments and loan facilities of up to Tk50,000, while also integrating non-banking services such as shopping, travel bookings, ticketing and access to lifestyle offers.
Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir said the government was prioritising full digitalisation of the financial system to improve transparency and inclusion.
“The government is considering various initiatives to prevent the various ‘diseases’ inherited within the banking sector,” he said, adding that ensuring every citizen has access to a bank account would help eliminate irregularities and strengthen the system.
Sharif Zahir said the bank had made steady progress over the past two years by focusing on governance, transparency and discipline.
“Digital systems are the future of the banking sector,” he said, adding that the launch marked a step towards expanding inclusive and cashless banking.
Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid said the platform goes beyond a conventional banking application.
“This is not just a new app. By integrating all services, we want to provide better service to our customers,” he said, adding that it would appeal particularly to younger and technology-focused users and support the growth of cashless transactions.
Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer Md Abdullah Al Mamoon said the new platform would replace the existing Unet app, automatically transitioning users to UCB One.
He said the app brings together multiple services in one place, offering a simplified, fast and secure banking experience, with biometric features and access to both financial and lifestyle services.
UCB said additional features would be introduced over time as the platform evolves.
The bank also said it is the first in Bangladesh to implement Oracle’s Open API version 14.7, enhancing the platform’s security. It has also secured ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for its Information Security Management System.
