Uber Technologies Inc has introduced hybrid subscriptions for its bike drivers in Bangladesh, allowing them to earn with zero commission while choosing from multiple subscription formats suited to their driving patterns.
The model, launched Wednesday, is designed to offer greater flexibility for both full-time and part-time drivers while encouraging more trips on the platform, Uber Bangladesh said in a press release.
The rollout builds on a subscription system introduced in Dhaka in 2023 and comes as street-hailing and off-app trips remain a challenge in the city’s bike-hailing ecosystem.
Trips conducted outside the app bypass GPS tracking, insurance and in-app safety features, Uber said. By offering more flexible access to trips, the model is expected to improve reliability for riders and reduce offline transactions.
“We are always working to improve the driver experience,” said Nasheed Ferdous Kamal, Uber’s country head for Bangladesh. The hybrid system gives drivers “greater flexibility and earning opportunities” while encouraging safer, app-based trips, he said.
Each day, tens of thousands of Uber Bike driver partners ply the streets of Dhaka. Continued product innovation aims to strengthen safety, accountability and overall experience on the platform.
Uber, founded in 2010, says it has served more than 7.2 million riders and created livelihoods for over 350,000 drivers in Bangladesh through 2024.
