Humanitarian assistance from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reached 1,620 underprivileged families across Bangladesh under a Ramadan food distribution programme, including 500 families affected by the recent fire at the Vashantek slum in Mirpur.
The initiative was carried out as part of the Ramadan Iftar Programme organised by UAE Aid and the Zayed Foundation to support vulnerable communities during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to organisers, each beneficiary family received a food parcel weighing about 38 kilograms containing essential items required for preparing daily iftar meals throughout the month.
UAE Embassy in Dhaka Foreign Aid Department Director Rashed Mohammed Naser Almail Alzaabi visited the distribution programme and observed the activities.
During the visit, he interacted with beneficiaries and local organisers while overseeing the distribution process.
“Ramadan is a time that reminds us of the importance of compassion, solidarity, and supporting those who are facing hardship,” he said.
“Through this initiative, the UAE Government, together with its humanitarian partners, aims to stand beside vulnerable communities in Bangladesh, especially those who have recently faced unexpected difficulties,” he said.
Many beneficiaries, particularly families affected by the recent Vashantek slum fire, expressed gratitude for the support, saying the food assistance would help them manage daily meals during Ramadan.
The programme forms part of the UAE’s broader humanitarian efforts to support communities in need and strengthen cooperation and goodwill between Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates.
