A Dhaka court on Friday placed two staff of major general (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, former defence and security adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, on a fresh three-day remand each in connection with a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Ramna Police Station.

The accused were caretaker Md Mohidul Islam, 42, and driver Md Chan Mia, 46.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ripon Hossain passed the order following a petition from the police, according to state counsel Shamsuddoha Suman.

The Investigating Officer (IO) of the case Md Amzad Hossain Talukdar, a police inspector with the Ramna Detective Branch, produced the suspects before the court following the completion of a previous remand period.

The IO sought a further seven-day remand for the duo, while the defence filed a petition seeking the cancellation of the remand. After hearing both sides, the court granted three days of police custody for each.

This marks the latest in a series of remands for the suspects in this case, following a four-day remand granted on 1 May and a three-day remand on 5 May.

Following the event, Sub-Inspector Aulad Hossain of Ramna Model Police Station filed the case naming 11 individuals and 40 to 50 unidentified others.

The two associates of Tarique Siddique were later implicated as suspects during the course of the investigation
