Two cabinet ministers left Dhaka for China on Tuesday night to join Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during his ongoing state visit to the country.
The ministers are Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon and Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee.
Officials close to the two ministers confirmed their departure, saying they will take part in a series of meetings and programmes in Beijing as members of the Prime Minister’s delegation.
Tarique travelled to China at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang after concluding his visit to Malaysia. He had departed Dhaka for Malaysia on Sunday at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
According to the official schedule, the Prime Minister is attending the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as the Summer Davos forum, will be held in the port city of Dalian, in northeast China’s Liaoning Province, from June 23 to 25.
The forum has brought together around 1,700 participants from more than 90 countries to discuss global economic challenges, innovation and sustainable development.
As part of his diplomatic engagements in China, Prime Minister Rahman is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Premier Li Qiang on 25 June. He is also expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on 26 June.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on the night of 26 June following the conclusion of his China visit.
