Two people, including a school student, were killed and another was critically injured when a speeding motorcycle hit a pedestrian in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila on Saturday.
The accident occurred in Lakshmipur area of Rahimanpur union in the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Arnab Islam, a school student from Jiabari village in Baliadangi upazila, and Abul Hossain, a pedestrian from Lakshmipur village under Rahimanpur union in Sadar upazila.
The injured person is Nirab from Chameswari village under Ruhia upazila.
According to eyewitnesses, Abul Hossain was standing by roadside when the speeding motorcycle struck him.
Arnab Islam, who was riding on back of the motorcycle, was critically injured and died on the spot. Pedestrian Abul Hossain was rescued and rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
The seriously injured Nirab was given primary treatment and later sent to Dinajpur for advanced treatment.
Thakurgaon Fire Service and Civil Defence Inspector Mozammel Haque confirmed the incident, adding that a fire service team rushed to the spot upon receiving the news.
He said they recovered one deceased person and rescued another injured person from the scene. Abul Hossain had been taken to hospital before the arrival of fire service team, where he later died, the inspector added.
