Two people, including the driver of a pickup, were killed in a head-on collision between a sand-laden truck and a vegetable-laden pickup in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj.
The accident occurred on Tuesday morning at the Mouchak area of the Dhaka–Sylhet highway.
The deceased were identified as pickup driver Ashraful Muktakim and vegetable trader Liton Gazi. Ashraful was from Sylhet’s Shah Paran area, while Liton was a resident of Karimganj upazila in Kishorganj.
Following the collision, traffic movement on the highway came to a halt. Shaistaganj Highway Police later arrived at the scene, removed the damaged truck and pickup, and restored traffic.
According to highway police, the Sylhet-bound vegetable pickup collided head-on with the sand-laden truck coming from the opposite direction. The front section of the pickup was crushed, killing Ashraful on the spot.
Liton Gazi, who was critically injured, was taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Shaistaganj Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Abu Taher Dewan said pickup driver Ashraful died at the scene, while vegetable trader Liton Gazi died after being taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
