Two people were killed and three others were injured after a covered van rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and two motorcycles in the capital’s Moghbazar Wireless Gate area.
The deceased were identified as Zaman Ahmed, 42, from Madhurgati Fakir Para in Narail Sadar upazila and Riyad Hossain, 22.
The accident occurred around 11:30pm on Sunday under the Moghbazar-Mouchak Flyover.
Zahedul Islam, deputy commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ramna Division said, the van was heading towards Malibagh from the Mouchak-Malibagh Flyover via Moghbazar Wireless. The driver lost control over the steering and crashed into the auto-rickshaw and two bikes, he added.
Motorcyclist Zaman died on the spot, while four injured persons were rescued and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Riyad died later while receiving treatment.
Inspector Md Faruk, officer-in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, confirmed the deaths.
