Two men were killed in a mob attack in Louhajang upazila, Munshiganj, on Wednesday morning after being suspected of theft.

The victims have been identified as Sagar, 24, and Sanaul, 18, both members of the Bede community residing in Goali Mandra, Louhajang.

Eyewitnesses said the two were caught around 2am in Satgharia village, Haldia Union, while allegedly attempting to steal electric wires.

They reportedly admitted to stealing two goats as well.

Local residents detained the men and reportedly beat them severely.

As their condition deteriorated, they were taken to the Upazila Health Complex around 9am, where doctors pronounced them dead.

Louhajang Police Station chief Md Monirul Islam confirmed that the men died while receiving treatment at the health complex.

“They were caught by the public and beaten while allegedly committing thefts early Wednesday morning. The matter will be investigated, and appropriate action will be taken,” he added.
