Two people died of dengue and 423 new patients were hospitalised with the mosquito-borne disease in the 24 hours until Sunday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The DGHS Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room, in its daily update, said one of the latest deaths was reported from Barishal division and the other from Khulna division.
Among the newly hospitalised patients, the highest number was recorded in Khulna division with 81 cases. Dhaka South City Corporation reported 69 cases, followed by Barishal division with 54, Chattogram division with 49, and Dhaka North City Corporation with 47 cases.
The update also showed 38 new patients were admitted from Dhaka division excluding the city corporations, while Mymensingh division reported 36 cases, Rajshahi 29, Rangpur 16 and Sylhet four.
Of the newly infected patients, 260 were men, accounting for 61.5 per cent, while 163 were women, making up 38.5 per cent.
During the same period, 472 dengue patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals nationwide.
According to DGHS data, from 1 January to 2 August this year, the country recorded 16,104 dengue cases.
The disease has claimed 56 lives during the period, with women accounting for 62.5 per cent of the fatalities and men 37.5 per cent.
So far, 14,930 dengue patients have recovered and been discharged, while 1,118 patients are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals across the country.
