Two people, Suman Sarkar, 35 and Mamun Hossain 32, have died after consuming adulterated alcohol in Pabna on early Friday.
Both families, however, have refused to comment on the matter or provide any details regarding their deaths.
No formal complaints have been filed with the police by the families following the incident.
The deceased, Suman Sarkar, son of Sanchit Sarkar from the Gopalpur area of Pabna city, and Mamun Hossain, son of Habibur Rahman from the Radhanagar Maktab area, were both members of a local music band.
They were also known for their work as musicians in the area.
Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Dulal Hossain confirmed the cause of death as alcohol poisoning based on hospital records.
He told TIMES, “The cause of death is recorded as alcohol consumption in the hospital’s documents. However, details about the type of alcohol consumed and the exact circumstances of their deaths will be provided after an investigation.”
OC Hossain further mentioned that one of the deceased’s bodies had already been cremated by the family due to religious customs, while the other body has been brought to the police station.
“No written complaint has been filed by the families at this time. An investigation is underway, and legal action will be taken once the investigation is complete,” he said.
According to Sukhi Khatun, Senior Staff Nurse at Pabna General Hospital, one of the victims was brought to the hospital at midnight, and the other around 3am.
“One of them died at the hospital, and his relatives took the body. The other died on the way to Rajshahi for further treatment,” she added.
Local sources indicate that both Suman and Mamun had consumed alcohol after attending an event.
They reportedly fell ill shortly afterward, and their condition worsened prompting their families to rush them to the hospital.
