Two children from the same family were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a minitruck and an auto-rickshaw in Khuniapalang, Ramu of Cox’s Bazar on Thursday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 4pm near Mirza Ali’s shop on the Shaheed ATM Jafar Alam Arakan Road, according to Inspector Nasir Uddin of the Ramu Highway Crossing Police.
The deceased were identified as Busra, 7, daughter of Faridul Islam from Palongkhali, Ukhiya, and Jannatul Mawa Moni, 14, daughter of Nurul Alam from the same area. The injured include Umme Habiba Beauty, 26, wife of Sarwar Alam Faisal, her six-year-old daughter Fayza Binte Faisal, and the auto-rickshaw driver Mohammad Saeedi, 27, a resident of Bagner Pahar in Rajapalong Union.
According to the locals, the Cox’s Bazar-bound minitruck collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw coming from opposition. The auto-rickshaw overturned into a roadside ditch, killing one child instantly and injuring four others.
The injured were initially taken to Cox’s Bazar District Hospital, after which Jannatul Mawa Moni and Umme Habiba were referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) due to critical conditions.
Jannatul Mawa Moni passed away en route near Eidgaon. The other two injured remain under treatment in Cox’s Bazar.
Inspector Nasir Uddin said a police team inspected the site, seized the involved vehicles, and launched an investigation into the crash.
The bodies of the deceased have been kept at Cox’s Bazar District Hospital morgue.
