The main perpetrator, Nesar, and his associate, Dipu, have been arrested in connection with the shooting and arson attack on a passenger bus of Alif Paribahan in Mirpur’s Senpara area of the capital, which occurred due to refusal to pay extortion money. The army arrested them from Mirpur on Friday night. They were handed over to the police station on Saturday.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kafrul Police Station, Md Abdullah Al Mamun, said, “The incident is being investigated with importance from the beginning. Two people have been arrested.”
Around 7am on Friday, four armed men stopped a passenger bus of Alif Paribahan in the Senpara area of Mirpur in the capital.
They fired several rounds of bullets to create panic and got all the passengers off the bus. They struck the bus several times with machetes and then set it on fire. During this time, the bus driver and helper were beaten with pistol butts. The entire scene was captured on CCTV footage.
The bus owner’s authorities claim that the accused Nesar, backed by a certain group, had been demanding extortion money from them for several months.
Previously, Alif Paribahan had filed an extortion case against Nesar Uddin at Kafrul Police Station after an employee was injured in a machete attack. This had angered him.
Transport workers claim that Pintu of the Gangchil group, involved in this incident, is still at large.
