The Bandarban district administration has suspended tourism activities across the hill district until July 10 due to continuous heavy rainfall and deteriorating weather conditions.
The decision was announced through a public notice issued around 9:30pm on Monday, July 6, and shared on the official Facebook page of the Bandarban District Administration.
The notice, signed by Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md Saniul Ferdous, said the persistent rainfall had created risks to communication networks and public safety in different parts of the district.
The temporary suspension has been imposed as a precautionary measure to protect the lives and property of tourists as well as local residents, the administration said. As a result, all tourist spots in Bandarban will remain closed to visitors until Friday.
Authorities have advised tourists, tour operators and the general public to avoid travelling to waterfalls, hill trails, river routes and remote areas during the period.
The administration also urged people to stay away from locations considered vulnerable due to adverse weather conditions.
Local officials said the decision was necessary as the district’s hilly terrain becomes increasingly dangerous during prolonged periods of heavy rainfall, which often trigger landslides, disrupt roads and create difficulties in communication.
They added that authorities are closely monitoring the situation and further decisions will be taken depending on the weather conditions.
