Bangladesh and China have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in technical and vocational education, with plans to modernise eight technical education institutions in Bangladesh on Saturday.
The agreement was signed by Bangladesh’s Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milan and Chinese Vice Minister of Education Wang Guangyan during the World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference 2026 in Tianjin, China.
The conference also saw the release of the Framework of World Vocational and Technical Education Standards, known as the Beijing Agreement, which Bangladesh supported. Education ministers from more than 40 countries and government delegations from over 100 nations attended the event.
The two countries will work to modernise eight technical education institutions in Bangladesh by adopting Chinese curricula, teaching methods and practical training models. Plans also include joint academic programmes under the 2+2 and 3+1 models, smart classrooms, modern training facilities and expanded scholarship opportunities for Bangladeshi students.
The partnership will also seek to create employment opportunities for Bangladeshi technical students at leading Chinese institutions and enterprises and establish a new technical and technology university in Bangladesh.
Institutions from Guangdong, Jiangxi and other Chinese provinces will serve as key implementation partners.
Both sides expressed optimism that the agreement would accelerate skills development, strengthen bilateral friendship and contribute to Bangladesh’s inclusive and sustainable socio-economic growth.
