A Dhaka court on Tuesday imposed a travel ban on retired Lieutenant Colonel Md Asadul Islam and his wife Nasrin Shams over allegations of amassing wealth beyond their known sources of income.
Judge Md Sabbir Faiz of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court passed the order in response to a petition filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The matter was confirmed by the court’s Bench Assistant Md Riaz Hossain.
According to the ACC petition, there are specific allegations against Asadul and his wife regarding the acquisition of illegal assets and “abnormal” financial transactions within their bank accounts.
The commission informed the court that an inquiry team has already been formed to verify these claims. The ACC further expressed concerns that the accused individuals might attempt to flee the country while the investigation is ongoing.
Consequently, the court directed a temporary travel ban to ensure a fair and thorough investigation.
